Driving Theory Hazard Perception
About the Hazard Perception Test
The second part of the driving theory test is the hazard perception test. Like the theory questions, the hazard perception test is taken at your nearest theory test centre. The hazard perception test is comprised of fourteen video clips chosen by the DSA. You must press a button when you can see a hazard developing. The hazards are environmental, such as cars moving out into the road and pedestrians.
Thirteen of the video clips will show one hazard and there is one clip which will show two hazards. Your score is based on how early you perceived the hazard. You score a five if you perceived a hazard early and zero if you perceived it too late or if you didn't spot the hazard at all. If you press the hazard button too often, that clip will be disqualified and you will score zero.
To pass the hazard perception test, you must score 44 or more out of 75.The result of your theory test will be given to you immediately after you have finished the hazard perception test. If you are successful, you will receive a certificate. You need to keep the certificate safe as you will need the reference number to book your practical test. If you do not pass the practical test within two years of passing your theory test you will need to resit the theory test.
