Driving Tuition & Tutors

A question a lot of our pupils ask before they start their tuition is: What will I learn during my lessons? Below is a detailed answer to this question.

During your first lesson your driving tutor will check your eyesight and your licence. You will then be driven somewhere quiet to allow you to get a feel for driving. Before you take the wheel, your tutor will first instruct you on the controls of the car. This should take between 20 – 30 minutes.

Once you are familiar with the controls, you will take the wheel and start learning to drive. Don't be too worried about making mistakes, your tutor has pedals at their feet and is able to take control of the car at any time. What you learn from this point onwards will depend on how quickly you can absorb the tuition. The tutor cannot move on to the next level until you have got to grips with the current level of tuition.

On your first lesson you will certainly move and stop the car, do a few gear changes, and you may even attempt an uphill start. With so many variables it is almost impossible to identify what will be done on each and every lesson, but everything will be covered and practised before you go for your practical driving test.

The time you have your driving lessons affects what can be taught. For example, you cannot be taught how to reverse around a corner if it is dark.

All of the tutors with DSBS are fully qualified and have years of experience and know when it is best to introduce new items into your course.
